ESTP is Active, Pragmatic, Focus on Results, Flexible
Extrovert – Sensing – Thinking – Perceiving
ESTPs are nothing if not realistic. They are keen observers of the world and rely heavily on their senses to tell them how things are. This makes them very practical, down to earth and present. They like material comforts and experiences. Because they accept things as they are, they are tolerant and open-minded.
They are action oriented, logical, sensible problem solvers in the concrete factual world. They prefer action to talking – getting things done, getting immediate results. They pride themselves on being efficient and active.
This pattern is spontaneous, flexible, impulsive, energetic and competitive, making it risk and power oriented. Competitiveness can attract them to sports, games and gambling. Often charming and entertaining, they can also be blunt and insensitive in their drive to be the center of attention.
Their diplomatic and persuasive abilities result in good sales ability, but also open to ruthless behavior.
Most Developed Skill
The strongest drive with the Extrovert Sensing Thinking Perceiving pattern is experiencing things in the present. They want to see, hear, feel, touch, taste, and smell everything. They trust concrete facts (what they can see, hear, feel, smell and taste) and specifics above everything. They are practical, reliable, forceful, and excitable. The Thinking preference creates a detached, logical emotional toughness.
Their strengths lie in their ability to seize opportunities, take action and risk. They like improvising to bring projects into the world. They are good at crisis management of practical problems.
Because ESTPs dominant skill is in sensing, they often develop excellent visual, auditory, gustatory, olfactory or kinesthetic/motor abilities. They are good with physical activities. They are excellent observers of people and what makes them tick – making them good at sales
Possible weaknesses in this skill set can be irresponsible, childish, unreliable behavior. The Sensing Perceiving combination can lead to acting before thinking things through. The “emergency” type action orientation can lead to chaos in their environment, and also overload and stress.
Their logical observation of people combined with their competitive drive can make them unscrupulous.
Under stress, they can become rigid, opportunistic, rebellious and defensive.
ESTPs typical expression is engaging and practical. They can be forceful, bold, energetic and critical
ESTPs value specific, realistic, practical action.
They have high need for autonomy, variety and action. Procedures, structure and repetition will not sit well with them.
The Sensing Perceiving combination learns best experientially. Abstractions and theories seem complicated and tedious. They need to live their experiences, not talk about them. They are good at hands on skill development – honing skills through practice.
Least Developed Skills
The least developedskill is introverted intuition. When they need to connect concrete reality with symbolism, they can develop dark and pessimistic fantasies and negative expectations of the future.
The lack of skill with intuition can result in withdrawal from social activities and feelings of incompetence in relationships. Logic, analysis and the ability to abstract is most difficult. They often think of others in stereotypical ways.
